Screaming painting.

Subject: This painting hangs on a white board facing away from the viewer. On one side of the white board is the painting (away from the viewer originally)  while on the other side it says “Come Back to me” (what the viewer sees first) the arduino board and buzzer are hidden on the table in front of the board. There is a light shining on the painting and a loud buzzing sounnd, until the viewer steps in front of the light and is looking directly at the painting. Once the viewer walks away the buzzing continues and the viewer will look at the board which says “Come back to me”.

Content: This painting could represent the way art wants to be viewed. The painting is calling out for attention 24/7 unless someone is looking at it. It could be called a needy painting. The simple fact that this painting is not interesting in any way and it does not call for the viewer to look at it for very long. However this painting is located in a corner and you must walk behind the white board and view the painting.  It makes the viewer think about why is this painting screaming or buzzing and why do I make it stop by stepping in front of the spotlight.

Another idea that could be associated with this piece is the idea that food is more important than we think. A simple apple and lemon are telling you to come back and won’t give up until you do or until the next person comes.  From the painting alone we could determine that food has some insignificant meaning to us but it’s still calling us back to it. Suggesting that maybe there’s something more in the painting. Which is why it’s calling you back every time.

subject vs cont.”The Value of Art”

Subject: “The Calue of Art by Christa Sommerer and Lauret Mignonneau is an interactive piece. This painting is of a vicious ocean in a black frame that hangs on a white wall. The interaction comes in when the the painting counts how many people people walk by and look at the priced and how much time they spend looking at the painting. This increases the euro value for ever minute the value is increased by one euro.

Content: The Value of Art could be a way of saying art talks back. People always have opinions on art including

jane philbrick – pull

Jane Philbricks installation PULL is a large room filled with fire alarms, smoke detectors, sirens, and other materials.  Thereis also an old fashion fire pull station.  This interactive piece comes with sound and flashing lights. The fire alarms and smoke detectors are stratigically placed side by sidein a pattern. Directly across the room facing the fire alarms on the opposite wall are control panels.

Pull can represent people who have the urge to pull something forbidden like a fire alarm. People like to do things others say they should not or can not do just to prove them wrong and maybe this is a way people can do just that. It could also mean the complete opposite. Meaning maybe Philbricks is trying to say when you should only pull the alarm when necessary and not jjst because you feel like it. People know not to pull fire alarms unless there is a fire and I know for myself I’ve always wanted to pull a fire alarm just because it is forbidden. The tempting fire alarm lever is begging to be pulled by any random person depsite the idea of breaking the rules.

Arduino 1R

This project is a combination of technology on being used for something we do not usually use it for in someplace it doesn’t belong. Our project is using an Arduino board to make an LED light flash on and off. We are using a red and blue light and placing on top of a dark very 2003 Honda coupe. Its will be placed on top of the car with a cardboard base and a plastic cover on top of it Going over the lights and the board.

This piece could be a representation of the growing powerless community of people of color or minorities. This red and blue light are the color of police lights and because they are so small they are hard to see even up close. The lights are also on top of a civilian car and not a police car. There have been numerous murders and multiple scandals associated with police brutality against african americans and people of color nationwide. It is a growing issue in today’s society and this piece is a good representation of how much police officers actually listen to pedestrians as oppose to how much pedestrians listen to police officers. It is true that not all cops are bad and we should learn to trust the people hired to serve and protect us, however this becomes an issue when this same class of officers are killing and abusing their power.  think about this, of police cars had small LED lights such as these on top, would we listen to them? Would we even stop to notice accidents or when someone is pulled over on the side of the road?

RestOration – NC

RestOration is a collaboration between different artists. This installation includes an online poem and documentary, a sound-scape, a tablet game and an e-waste sculpture. The online poem is fairly short lasting on 50 words.  The website for this project plays two women speaking in a soothing voice as readers look through the website. There are 13 poems being recited.  The actual e-waste sculpture is located at the humanities library at the University of Bergen.

One possible meaning that can be associated with the first poem is letting go of life’s difficulties and finding ways to stress less. In my opinion, this project is giving people awareness and knowledge of what is actually going on with our e-waste. Often times people never even think about the affects their actions have on others. Actions like throwing away a cellphone or laptop because it doesn’t work anymore. One potential argument this piece is making could be that the earth takes a lot of our trash and in return we should appreciate everything it is doing and not just continue to throw even more trash when we don’t have to. The poem says that the burden she or he was carrying slipped through their bones and down into the ground. “We call earth to hold us. We call nature Mother.” This is where the earth takes care of us, the author goes on to say “We exaggerate what mother will tolerate.”  meaning there is only so much we will do before the earth will stop taking care of us.

Indaplants

The Indaplant is an act of trans species living that co-mingles technology and plants. The moving object is a potted plant on top of a robot as the base along with 3 rubber wheels which give the plant mobility. It is also equip with 3 solar panels to power the robot. These 3 plants are now able to seek sunlight on their own as well as find water and wait for someone to water it.

Content 1: This robot plant could be a new wave of technology giving plants a new way of life. Scientists speculate that plants can be sad or happy and what if this is the beginning of them expressing those feelings. In some ways it makes me think of a plant community with hundreds of moving, feeling, living plants.

Content 2: Another way of looking at this Indaplant could be an unnatural project that should not have been created. Like Jurassic park in a sense.

Finished product: Misdirection

Image

This sculpture includes 4 pieces of wood, a baby car seat, a basket, twine, a blue ball, clear tubing, an empty tub of butter and an old blue bottle holder. I drew some doodles along some of the wood pieces just to give the piece some more life and color. The basket is hanging from the wood with twine almost like a basketball hoop and you can even shoot the blue ball into the ‘hoop’. I also tapes over the butter and colored the top in silver.

Subject vs. Content

This sculpture is named Misdirection. From the floor up the piece consists of wood, nails, a blue baby seat for a car, a clear tube circling its self at the bottom to the top, and a tub of butter. To me this piece looks like the letter A at first glance but it is off balance. It could also represent a cage for a small animal perhaps a mouse or a Ginny Pig accept there are no boundaries so it isn’t really a cage it could possibly be an exercise gadget.
